New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday expressed her anguish over the invitation she got for the unveiling event of the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose scheduled to be held this evening at India Gate saying that she is “not a bonded labour”. The TMC chief said that she felt bad that the BJP is making a statue of Netaji here, reported news agency ANI.
“I feel bad they're now making a Netaji Statue in Delhi. What about the statue present before?” she said.
She also alleged that she received a letter from an under secretary saying that she would be there at the event venue before it commenced.
“I received a letter from an under secretary stating the PM will inaugurate the statue today&you be there before the event commences. Am I their bonded labour?” the TMC chief said while speaking at a party event in Kolkata.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil Netaji's statue today during the inauguration of ‘Kartavya Path’. The 28-feet tall statue weighs 65 metric tons and is crafted by Arun Yogiraj. The statue has been installed at the same place where a hologram statue of Netaji was unveiled by the PM earlier this year on Parakram Diwas, January 23.
“The statue, made of granite, is a fitting tribute to the immense contribution of Netaji to our freedom struggle, and would be a symbol of the country’s indebtedness to him,” the press release said.
The Bengal CM also targeted the BJP over Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina’s visit saying “This is the first time the PM of Bangladesh came to India & did not come to Bengal despite her desire to meet me.”
Regarding a united Opposition against the BJP for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, she said: “In 2024 we will play a game that will start from Bengal. Hemant (Soren), Akhilesh (Yadav), Nitish (Kumar), I and other friends will unite then. How will they (BJP) form a government then? There’s no need for BJP govt
