New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security on Sunday, where he was briefed on the prevailing context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
During the meeting, Modi directed that all possible efforts should be made to bring back the mortal remains of Naveen Shekharappa, an MBBS student who died in Kharkiv, news agency ANI reported.
The Prime Minister was also briefed on the latest developments in Ukraine, including Operation Ganga. Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the Indian government launched Operation Ganga to evacuate Indian nationals, including students, along with some citizens of India’s neighbouring countries, from Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Sunday that the process to bring back the mortal remains of Shekharappa will be resumed soon after the shelling stops there.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister was also briefed on the latest developments and different aspects of India’s security preparedness in the border areas as well as in the maritime and air domain. He took a detailed overview of global technology usage in the defence sector and India’s advances in the same.
Modi also emphasised on integrating the latest technology in the country's security apparatus, sources told ANI.
The Prime Minister reiterated that every effort must be made to make India self-reliant in the defence sector so that it not only “strengthens our security but also enhances economic growth”, ANI reported.
The meeting was attended by a number of Cabinet ministers, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Srhingla also attended the meeting.
