Patna: In a bizarre case, a living Covid-19 patient at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) was declared dead. His family was also handed a death certificate.

As reported by news agency IANS, a doctor at PMCH revealed that Chunnu Kumar, a resident Mohammadpur near the Barh police station, was admitted to the hospital on April 9 after having suffered a brain hemorrhage.

He also tested positive for Coronavirus during the course of the treatment after which, he was admitted to a Covid ward for treatment.

On Sunday, the patient's wife and brother were informed by the hospital administration that Chunnu had died. The administration hurriedly sealed the body of the patient to remove it after death and handed it over to Chunnu's brother Manoj Kumar while also issuing a death certificate.

The body was to be cremated under the supervision of the hospital administration and it was during this period when Chunnu's wife insisted on seeing her husband for the last time.

Family members revealed that when the covering cloth was removed from the body, the mortal remains turned out to be of a person other than Chunnu.

The authorities then began looking into the matter and found out that Chunnu was in fact still undergoing treatment at PMCH - much to the relief of his family members.

Calling it a 'big mistake', The administration also went on to dismiss health manager Anjali Kumari over the issuance of a death certificate for a living Covid patient.

This case has been reported at a time when the Bihar government is once again dealing with a worrisome Covid situation as a number of infected persons has broken new records with rising in actively infected patients. Covid cases have risen four times in the last eight days as the active cases in the state on April 4 stood at 3,560 which have risen to 14,695 on April 11.
