An Air India flight en route from Ahmedabad to London met with an accident on Thursday afternoon, prompting an immediate emergency response and rescue operation.
According to a statement from Air India, a dedicated passenger helpline has been activated. Those seeking information can contact the emergency hotline at 1800 5691 444.
Sharing an update on social media platform X, Air India confirmed that injured passengers are being transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, took off from Ahmedabad at 13:38 IST carrying 242 people on board, including passengers and crew. The passenger list reportedly includes 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, 1 Canadian, and 7 Portuguese nationals.
Air India stated that it is fully cooperating with authorities investigating the incident. The airline also assured that regular updates will be provided through its official handle on X and its website.
The UK government also issued a statement saying they are working with local authorities in India to urgently establish the facts and provide support to those involved.
It also issued a helpline number 020 7008 5000 for British nationals who require consular assistance or have concerns about friends or family.
Minsitry of Civil Aviation has activated an Operational Control Room to coordinate all details related to the crash. The Control Room can be contacted on helpline numbers 011-24610843; 9650391859.
