New Delhi: Demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government to withdraw the Agnipath recruitment scheme, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other leaders of the grand old party are sitting on a protest in the national capital on Sunday. Holding placards which read “Stop shattering the dreams of millions of youth” and “Stop playing with the future of youth”, the Congress leaders are sitting on a ‘satyagraha’ at the Jantar Mantar.

“Satyagraha will win, ego will lose,” the Congress posted on its official Twitter handle in Hindi and shared the photograph of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra siting on a protest.

This comes a day after Congress president Sonia Gandhi termed the Agnipath scheme “directionless” and said it is unfortunate that the government has ignored the voice of the youth.

“I am sad that the government has ignored your voice and announced a new scheme that is completely directionless,” Gandhi said.

“Several ex-servicemen and defence specialists have also raised questions on this scheme,” she added.

Gandhi asserted the Congress pledges to stand with the protesting youth and work for withdrawal of the Agnipath scheme.

The Congress president also appealed to the youth to adopt peaceful and non-violent means to fight for their demands.

The Agnipath scheme for recruitment to the armed forces was launched by the three service chiefs earlier this week in Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s presence.

This scheme has, however, sparked protests in many parts of the country.

As protests continue unabated, various Union Ministries have announced job opportunities for the Agniveers after their four-year term ends.
