‘Against All Types And Forms Of Communalism’: Congress Issues Statement Amid PFI Ban

The ban on PFI came after multiple raids by various central and state agencies conducted at over hundred locations in different states across the country. 

New Delhi: The Congress party on Wednesday issued a statement saying that it has been and will always remain against all sorts and types of communalism. The statement issued by Congress General Secretary In-Charge, communications, Jairam Ramesh comes amid Centre’s ban on Popular Front of India (PFI) for a period of five years. 

“The Congress party has always been and will continue to be against ALL forms and types of communalism — majority, minority makes no difference,” it said in a statement. 

“The Congress’ policy has always been to fight uncompromisingly all ideologies and institutions that abuse religion for polarising our society, that misuse religion to spread prejudice, hate, bigotry, and violence,” it added. 

“This fight is of utmost priority to preserve, protect, and celebrate the secular and composite construct of our society and nationhood,” the party said in its statement. 

Centre Bans PFI 

The Centre on Tuesday declared PFI and its associates or affiliates or front as an “unlawful association”. According to the official notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, outfit and its associates or affiliates or fronts have been banned for a period of five years. 

"PFI and its associates or affiliates or fronts operate openly as a socio-economic, educational and political organisation but, they have been pursuing a secret agenda to radicalise a particular section of the society working towards undermining the concept of democracy and show sheer disrespect towards the constitutional authority and constitutional set up of the country," the notification released by the government read.

Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India(CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Org (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Jr Front, Empower India Foundation & Rehab Foundation, Kerala are some of the other organisations banned by the government.
