New Delhi: Four years after the alleged illegality came under the BMC scanner, the municipal corporation of Mumbai demolished part of film actor Arshad Warsi's bungalow at Versova for allegedly constructing an additional floor illegally.
When civic officials visited the premises, the bungalow was locked. So they carried out only symbolic demolition on Monday.
The BMC, on Saturday, had stuck a demolition notice on the bungalow No. 10 in Air India Co-operative Society (Shantiniketan), giving actor 24 hours to remove the illegal construction of the second floor.
As there was allegedly no response from the actor, BMC carried out the partial demolition on Monday.
Another notice will be issued to Warsi and his wife, Maria Goretti, said BMC officials. They will be asked to provide civic staff access to the property to remove the illegal floor.
In 2012, Warsi and his wife reportedly bought the bungalow from a retired Air India captain. While renovating the house, the actor, allegedly carried out the illegal construction and subsequently, society members complained to BMC about the illegal addition.
When BMC decided to remove the illegal addition in 2013, the actor got stay from the court and recently, the court lifted the stay order.
