How Has Social Media Helped India In Striving Towards Sustainability
Sonam Mahajan Puri started her Instagram journey back in 2013 while talking about travel and soon when she became a mother, her content transitioned from being travel-related to parenting-related. Puri while talking about this said, "When I became a mother, that was the time when I started talking about parenting and parenting in a manner that we do not destroy the planet. As per research, when you become a parent, you start to destroy the planet because you create a lot of waste."
She added, "While I was voicing my journey of parenting, I was also telling people not to do certain things which could harm the environment. From there to today, seven years down the line, I think I have a voice on Instagram which talks about sustainable parenting, green parenting, telling people to raise their children in an eco-conscious manner so that tomorrow these people become environment leaders."
Parth Goyal during the discussion talked about how veganism can help in better health. Goyal said that he has successfully reversed diabetes, hypertension, PCOD, and thyroid for many patients just by making them switch to a vegan diet. While advocating for veganism, he also said, "Veganism helps in making the environment clean."
Sagar Singh while talking about his journey said, "In 2019, the Mumbai government decided to clear Aarey forest and suddenly out of nowhere I am feeling helpless because I am teaching something from the book about environment, conversation and until and the book will remain a fiction novel until and unless I am able to bring it out of the book into the real world."
He added, "I started mobilising through Instagram and we got around 700 volunteers on the ground with the help of that. The protest went on for around two months. Trees were also cut down overnight. But yes, after all these years, we were able to save 800 acres of forest in Mumbai due to Instagram."
