Chandigarh, Punjab: AAP MLA Amarjeet Singh Sandoa was allegedly attacked by sand mining mafia in the Roopnagar District. The incident took place when the MLA went to check reports about the illegal mining of sand in the Benhara Village, near Nurpur Bedi.

According to the Police, Sandoa was attacked with steel rods and sticks. His guard, Constable Sukhdeep Singh, was also beaten and has incurred injuries. Three days ago, the same people allegedly beat six people of the Forest Department, two of which remain critical, and this led to the probe that Sandoa went to conduct in the area.

The party informs that both the MLA and the Constable have been admitted in the PGIMER Hospital, Chandigarh, and are in a stable condition right now.

The Police arrested 3 people when a video of the whole incident went viral on social media. Two people are still at large. The people arrested are Jaswinder Singh Goldie, Amarjeet Singh and Manjeet Singh. All of them are natives of Benhara Village, where the incident took place.

The Police also said that those arrested were in possession of an SUV and two guns. They are still looking for the main accused, Ajvinder Singh, who already has many cases against him. Punjab CM, Amrinder Singh, has asked for a detailed report of the incident from Ropad’s Deputy Commissioner.

However, Roopnagar Police’s Raj Bachchan Singh Sandhu said that it is still being investigated whether the case is explicitly of illegal sand mining. They have registered the case with charge of ‘attempt to murder’. Police are also investigating how both the MLA’s bodyguards failed to protect him.

The opposition on the other hand is accusing the Congress of poor situation of law and order in the state.
