NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party leader and Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba has been removed from the post of party spokesperson on Tuesday as she had deviated from the party line while commenting on the resignation of former Delhi transport minster Gopal Rai.

According to a report published in The Indian Express, "Lamba told reporters that transport minister Gopal Rai had been “relieved” of the portfolio to make way for a fair probe into the Premium Bus Service scheme."

While the party maintained that Rai requested Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to relieve him from the responsibility of Transport Department on health grounds as he had recently undergone a major surgery, Lamba said Kejriwal asked Rai to step down as he wanted to ensure a fair probe into the alleged scam, said the report.

Last month, Rai had announced Premium Bus Service Scheme to encourage the car users to leave their vehicles and use public transport.

However, the scheme came under scanner of Delhi Government's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) as Lt Governor Najeeb Jung had refused to give his go-ahead to the scheme.
