New Delhi: In a major to jolt to Aam Aadmi Party, its senior leader Ashutosh quit party on Wednesday. He has cited a "very very" personal reason even as the party asked him to reconsider the decision.  The journalist-turned-politician was seen missing at major party events stoking speculations that he was miffed with the party.

Sources close to the development said his resignation has been handed over to party supremo Arvind Kejriwal a few days ago. The sources also said that the leader was upset for not being consulted at major events by the party and also for not being given Rajya Sabha ticket. He first slammed the party for sidelining him and thereafter handover his resignation to the party, sources added.

Senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said, "We all will request Ashutosh to take his resignation back. Party's Delhi unit convenor Gopal Rai also said, "It is sad. We will talk to him".

Instantly after quitting, Ashutosh changed his Twitter ID from @AapKaAshutosh to @Ashutosh83B. Ashutosh had quit his job as a renowned journalist to join Aam Aadmi Party.

He contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Chandni Chowk against Kapil Sibal of Congress and Harsh Vardhan of the BJP. He won more votes than Kapil Sibal of the Congress, but lost to Dr Harsh Vardhan of the BJP.

Won't accept your resignation, says Arvind Kejriwal

Approximately three hours after Ashutosh tweeted about quitting the party, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also took to Twitter to tell him that his resignation would not be accepted in this lifetime at least.. In his accompanying tweet, the Aam Aadmi Party chief also told Ashutosh "we all love you a lot".  Kejriwal's emotionally-charged message gave an impression that Ashutosh would be cajoled to withdraw his decision.
