New Delhi: An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in his early fifties who was posted with the Delhi Police allegedly committed suicide this morning.  53-year-old Prem Ballabh jumped to death from the 10th floor of Delhi Police headquarters at Indraprasta Marg at around 10:30 am. He was posted with the Establishment branch of the Delhi Police headquarters. Reports say Ballabh's body was found lying on the porch of the building. He was declared on arrival to a nearby hospital.

Ballabh had joined Delhi Police as head constable in 1986 and was promoted to the rank of ACP in 2016. He had served as personal assistant to senior officers of Delhi Police, an official was quoted by PTI.

He was recently hospitalised for 28 days as he was suffering from depression. It is suspected that he killed himself because of that.

Earlier this year, senior Maharashtra IPS officer Himanshu Roy allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Mumbai. The 1988-batch Indian Police Service officer, was suffering from cancer.  Roy, the additional director general of police (Establishment), allegedly shot himself on May 11 with his service revolver and was rushed to Bombay Hospital where he was declared dead.

More details are awaited.
