New Delhi: Former Union Home Secretary Anil Baijal is tipped to be the next Delhi Lieutenant-Governor after Najeeb Jung quit from his post on Thursday.

Baijal also emerged as the front-runner to replace N N Vohra as Jammu and Kashmir Governor

Five things to know about Anil Baijal:

  • Baijal, a 1969 batch IAS officer, served as home secretary in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.


 

  • Baijal also served as vice-chairman of the Delhi Development Authority and was reputed to be a “brilliant officer”.


 

  • He was brought in by deputy prime minister L K Advani in 2004 to start a clean-up operation and give DDA a more people-friendly and transparent image.


 

  • In his long service career spanning over 37 years, Mr. Baijal held various important assignments like that of the Union Home Secretary, Chairman & Managing Director , Indian Airlines, Chief Executive Officer, Prasar Bharti Corporation (Broadcasting Corporation of India), Vice-Chairman, Delhi Development Authority, Development Commissioner, Goa and Counselor in-charge of Indian Aid Programme in Nepal.


 

  • Baijal was earlier in the executive council of the think-tank Vivekananda International Foundation, several of whose former members have been appointed to senior positions by the current Modi government.
