At least three people were killed on Saturday and Sunday in separate incidents of lynchings in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Haryana. In the first Incident, a man was beaten to death, following a clash during a New Year's Eve party in UP's Gorakhpur on Saturday, reported news agency PTI. Citing police officials, PTI reported that the incident occurred in Machligaon village. The deceased has been identified as Sonu (25), they said.
According to the police, the accused, Ranju, hosted a party at her home. An argument broke out there between Ranju's family members and Sonu when he started dancing near the stage.
Police further said that the argument turned to a fight and the woman's family members thrashed Sonu till he fainted. The police were informed and Sonu was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
SHO Campierganj police station Bhupinder Singh said that the family of the deceased registered a complaint and a case was registered against four people, including Ranju. Further investigation is underway, he added.
Man Killed Over Bar Argument In Maharashtra's Nagpur
A man was killed in front of a shop on Sunday in Nagpur, as reported by the News Agency PTI.
According to the Maharashtra Police, the man was allegedly killed by five persons with whom he had an argument on New Year's Eve, PTI reported.
The police further stated that the deceased Rajesh Meshram (23) and the five accused had fought over some issue in a beer bar in the Samta Nagar area on Saturday evening.
"The five plotted revenge and intercepted Meshram at 10 am on Sunday in front of a pan shop at Kamal Square, in broad daylight and the pence of onlookers, he was stabbed to death," PTI quoted the police official as saying.
"We arrested four persons for the murder, while one is absconding. The car they used was spotted in the CCTV footage from the area. The accused are history-sheeters, while the deceased had an Arms Act case against his name," he added.
Man Thrashed To Death By Mob In Haryana's Gurugram
In a similar incident, a 28-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people over an old enmity in Sector 46 of Gurugram, Haryana Police said on Sunday.
PTI reported that the deceased was identified as Sonu Kumar, a native of Madnaka village in Palwal district of Haryana. He was a resident of Jal Vihar Colony in Sector 46, police said.
According to the police, the man used to work at a utensils shop of his relative. Around 2.45 pm on Saturday, a group of around eight people on two-wheelers came to the shop. They attacked Kumar with sticks and iron rods and fled.
Following the complaint of David, a cousin of Kumar, an FIR was registered against the unidentified accused under sections 148 (riots), 149 (unlawful assembly), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 506 (and criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code at Sector 50 police station Saturday night, police said.
PTI reported that around 10 am on Sunday, the brother-in-law of Kumar informed the police that he had succumbed to injuries. The police rushed to the hospital and took the body for autopsy. IPC Section 302 (murder) was also added to the FIR.
The autopsy was conducted in the afternoon, but the family members of the deceased refused to take the body, demanding the arrest of the accused first.
“We are questioning some suspects and raids are being conducted at suspected places to nab the accused,” PTI quoted the Station House Officer Rajesh Kumar as saying.
Fight Breaks Out Over 'Selfies With Women' At New Year Party In Greater Noida Society
A major ruckus took place in a residential complex in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida during a New Year's eve party after some men allegedly forced women for selfies. The brawl took place after a group of men were trying to take selfies with two women at the new year bash in Gaur City First Avenue Society on Saturday night, which led to a heated argument between their husbands and the accused, reported news agency IANS.
The accused dragged and beat up the men. Some security guards and residents, who tried to intervene also sustained injuries in the clash.
The resident of the Gaur City First Avenue Society said that a few men were forcibly trying to take selfies with their wife and his friend's wife, and when they objected to it, the accused began to abuse and beat them, according to the news agency.
Two people have been arrested in the case, while a search is on to trace the other accused According to the police four people have been injured in the incident and admitted to a hospital in the city, reported IANS. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
