Hyderabad: Two persons was apprehended by the Hyderabad Police for posting obscene material on social media against YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy's sister Y.S. Sharmila. The post had mentioned about an alleged love affair between Sharmila and "Bahubali" actor Prabhas.
Reports say Central Crime Station (CCS) personnel arrested one of the accused named P. Venkatesh from Guntur town of Andhra Pradesh. Venkatesh is a native of Prakasam district and is a post-graduate student at a private college in Guntur. The identity of the other youth was not known yet.
The accused was traced with the help of a team of Google.
Venkatesh was brought to Hyderabad and booked under section 509 of Indian Penal Code (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and section 67 of Information Technology Act (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form), reported IANS.
Sharmila is the daughter of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. She had last month met the Hyderabad Police Commissioner and urged him to track down those maligning her on the social media.
She also trashed the false propaganda linking her with Prabhas and alleged that it was a conspiracy by the vested interests to defame her and gain political mileage ahead of Lok Sabha polls. She believed the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is complicit in the scurrilous attacks against her.
Taking note of the incident, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP President N. Chandrababu Naidu condemned Sharmila's allegations. He criticised her for lodging a complaint with Telangana police and not with Andhra Pradesh police.
