New Delhi: To mark the occasion of 12th National Voters' Day (NVD) on Tuesday, National Awards for the Best Electoral Practices for 2021-22 will be awarded to important stakeholders including government departments, EC icons, and media groups for their contribution towards voters' awareness.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is observing the day with the theme 'Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible, and Participative’ focusing on its commitment to facilitate the active participation of voters during the elections while ensuring that the entire process remains hassle-free and a memorable experience for voters.

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu will virtually deliver lecture during the function. Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju will grace the function as the guest of honour.

Here’s How EC Will Celebrate The 12th National Voters' Day

The national award will be given to state and district level officers for their outstanding performance in the conduct of elections in different spheres such as IT initiatives, security management, election management, accessible elections, and contribution in the field of voter awareness and outreach, according to news agency IANS.

Apart from this, the newly enrolled voters would also be felicitated and handed over their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC). The Commission has recently rolled out a new initiative under which EPIC is being delivered to newly enrolled voters along with a personalised letter and a Voter Guidebook.

The EC will also launch its publication 'Leap of Faith: Journey of Indian Elections. The book captures India's electoral history and the growth of representative and electoral principles in India and its evolution from the 19th to 21st century while another book 'Pledging to Vote - A decadal Journey of The National Voters Day in India' will also be launched.

This book shares the journey of National Voters' Day celebrations by the EC from the Diamond Jubilee celebration onwards. Dedicated to the voters of the country, the publication, especially, its pictorials are sure to inspire the personnel who serve as 'Frontline Warriors of Electoral Democracy'.

Apart from the above activities to mark the celebration, a national voter awareness contest on social media -- 'My Vote is my Future- Power of One Vote' will also be launched. This is aimed to reiterate the importance of every vote through creative expression for the ongoing Assembly Elections 2022.

Since 2011, every year on January 25, National Voters' Day has been observed across the country to commemorate the Election Commission's founding day, i.e. January 25, 1950.

The primary goal of the NVD celebration is to encourage, facilitate, and maximise enrolment, particularly among new voters. The day is dedicated to the country's voters and is used to raise voter awareness and encourage informed participation in the political process.
