Hyundai entered the sub-4m SUV space in India this year with the Venue. And we recently we got to test Hyundai’s Maruti Brezza rival. Let’s compare how the sub-4m Hyundai fares against its rivals in terms of real-world performance.
Ahead of looking at the in-depth comparison, here are the technical specs of all the SUVs:
The EcoSport is powered by a naturally aspirated engine which happens to be the largest and the most powerful unit here. In terms of torque, however, the EcoSport comes last, with the XUV300 taking the top spot with 200Nm. The Venue is second, producing just 28Nm less than the Mahindra.
Please note: Along with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, the EcoSport also gets a 1.0-litre turbocharged unit as well, rated at 125PS, with a 6-speed manual.
Similarly, the Venue is also available with a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 83PS/114Nm mated to a 5-speed MT.
Here are the real-world performance figures of these SUVs:
Performance Tests:
The Venue is the fastest car here to hit the 100kmph mark. It takes 0.65s less than the Nexon, which takes the second spot. The XUV300 comes last after the EcoSport, despite producing the highest torque here.
The Venue continues to lead the quarter mile drag as well followed by the Nexon, EcoSport and the XUV300, in that order.
The tables turn when it comes to in-gear acceleration. The XUV300 takes the top spot followed by the Venue. The EcoSport comes third while the Nexon takes the last spot.
Braking Test:
All the sub-4m SUVs here except for the XUV300 -- which comes with all-four disc brakes -- are equipped with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the back. Thanks to this advantage, the Mahindra takes the shortest distance to come to a halt from 80kmph. However, it comes second after the Nexon in the 100-naught braking test. The Venue and the EcoSport come third and fourth in this test, respectively.
All said, all the SUVs here have their fair share of pros and cons. Where the Venue has an edge over other in acceleration and quarter mile drag, the XUV300 and the Nexon takes the bag when it comes to braking.
