After various speculations, Hyundai has finally confirmed that its upcoming sub-4m compact SUV will be called “Venue.” Based on the Carlino concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2016, the Hyundai Venue will make its world debut at the New York International Auto Show on 17 April 2019. Being an important product for India, it will also have an India-specific premiere on the same day, with a launch expected in May 2019.

The teaser images from Hyundai reveal that the Venue will be sporting its nameplate in the centre of the tailgate like in the Alturas G4 and the Tata Harrier. Hyundai had showcased this exercise earlier on its biggest SUV, the Palisade.

This is Hyundai’s first attempt at the sub-4m compact SUV segment in India. Earlier, Hyundai had teased the Venue in camouflage through an official video, revealing a few design elements and features. From the teaser, it’s clear that the Venue will come with a sunroof and front LED DRLs. On the features front, expect it to get wireless mobile charging, push-button start/stop, cruise control, auto climate control, a touchscreen with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay connectivity -- and maybe, ventilated front seats, similar to the Creta and Verna.

Hyundai’s latest teasers are calling the Venue a connected SUV. We expect that Hyundai might equip it with Blue Link telematics feature that is available on its cars sold in other global markets. This tech keeps owners informed about their car’s health through a mobile application relaying information regarding service reminder, geo-fencing, driving analysis and other running components. Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, Honda and Nissan currently offer this facility on their cars in India.

The Hyundai Venue will be running a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine coupled with a 7-speed dual clutch auto transmission at least in the higher trims. It will become the only car in its category to boast of this upmarket transmission technology. Lower variants are likely to feature 1.4-litre diesel and petrol powertrains from Hyundai’s current lineup.

Once launched, the Hyundai Venue will be entering a crowded segment of sub-4m compact SUVs and rival the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300. The entry-level variant of the Venue is expected to be priced from Rs 8 lakh.
