The Hyundai Elite i20 Asta and Asta(O) MY2016 and 2017 are eligible for the software update
Hyundai India has rolled out a software update for Android Auto to the Elite i20. The upgrade is applicable only to models that were produced before April 2017. The 2018 Elite i20 facelift, which was launched at the Auto Expo 2018, has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink connectivity inbuilt to its infotainment system.
Hyundai first added a 7-inch AVN unit to the Elite i20 in the latter half of 2015. The system could playback videos, had inbuilt maps and was available with Bluetooth, AUX and USB connectivity. The Hyundai Elite i20 models delivered April 2017 onwards were provided with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. To know whether your car qualifies for the update, get in touch with your service advisors.
CarDekho had spoken with authorised Hyundai service centers in Pune and Delhi and learnt that eligible customers can send their vehicles to the service centers for the software update after fixing an appointment. The software update is expected to take at least half a day but to keep a decent buffer period, service centers have advised leaving the car for a day. After the software update, Android phone users will be able to connect to the infotainment units of their vehicles through the USB port and utilise Google Maps, Google Music, contacts and other widgets available on the standard Android. This is good news for those Elite i20 owners who use an Android phone while Apple owners don’t get the convenience of CarPlay just yet. Maruti had issued a similar Android Auto software update rollout for the Suzuki SLDA(smartphone linkage display audio)-equipped top variants of the Ciaz, Baleno and S-Cross in July last year.
