New Delhi: Hours after addressing her first rally as Congress leader in PM Modi’s home state Gujarat, party’s newly inducted general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tweeted for the first time from her official twitter handle invoking Maharma Gandhi and his virtues.

The first tweet of Priyanka Gandhi, made ten hours ago, amassed 26,000 likes and over 7500 retweets so far.

Priyanka who already enjoys a huge popularity over masses, wrote in her first tweet: “In the simple dignity of Sabarmati, the truth lives on.”

She next tweeted a photo from her Sabarmati Ashram tour. The picture featured Mahatma’s spinning wheel. She used Mahatma Gandhi’s quote as the caption: "I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent," she wrote.

The second tweet also received an overwhelming response with about 22000 likes and 7100 retweets.

Priyanka tweeted from her handle about a month after joining the micro blogging website. When she had joined Twitter, she instantly garnered over 1 lakh followers within hours.

Priyanka Gandhi, 47, follows seven Congress leaders on Twitter, including her brother and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.

In her first address as a Congress leader, she delivered a thundering speech and urged the people to question the ruling BJP-led NDA dispensation on the promises it made during previous Lok Sabha polls and to use the "weapon" of vote for their empowerment in the upcoming general elections.

She said she is saddened by what is happening in the country. "This country is made on the foundations of love, harmony and brotherhood. Today whatever is happening in the country is very sad.”
