New Delhi: In the special session of the Haryana Assembly on Chandigarh issue between Punjab and Haryana, the resolution has been passed unanimously taking note of with concern the resolution recently passed by the Punjab Assembly staking claim over the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said thanks to the individuals from the opposition parties for collectively supporting the resolution brought by his government in the House.
After three hours of discussion on the resolution, CM replied to the debate and after that, the resolution was passed.
While moving the resolution prior, Khattar raked up the issues of the development of the SYL channel and the move of Hindi-talking regions to the state.
"Haryana has the right on Chandigarh along with a separate HC for the state. It's beyond our understanding why they've (Punjab's AAP govt) raised Chandigarh issue soon after polls got over. Only they can tell under what pressure they're bringing the issue to the fore," said CM as quoted by news agency ANI.
Earlier, replying to the discussion on the resolution which lasted for about three hours, CM said that 25 speakers from all sides in the house have given their views on the resolution. Everyone has supported the resolution letter of the government.
Khattar additionally raised the issue of the Bhakra Beas Management Board and the matter connected with the posting of Haryana authorities in Chandigarh Union Territory.
The Haryana government called the extraordinary meeting of the state assembly, days subsequent to adjoining Punjab passing a resolution looking for a guaranteed move of the Union Territory of Chandigarh to the AAP-ruled state.
A political debate had erupted after Union Home Minister Amit Shah's new declaration that the Central Service Rules would apply to the workers of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
The Union Territory of Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab and Haryana.
While raising the issue of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link channel, Khattar urged the central government to take measures for the construction of the canal.
“This House notes with concern the resolution passed in the Legislative Assembly of Punjab on 1 April, 2022 recommending that the matter for transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab be taken up with the Central government,” said the resolution read out by Khattar.
“This is not acceptable to the people of Haryana,” the resolution said.
Haryana keeps on holding its right to the capital territory of Chandigarh, it added.
