In a setback to the Aam Aadmi Party in Gujarat, MLA Bhupendra Bhayani has tendered his resignation from the state assembly and is likely to join the BJP as claimed by reports. The MLA from the Visavadar seat in the Junagadh district met assembly speaker Shankar Chaudhary in Gandhinagar on Wednesday morning to hand over his resignation.

Bhayani, however, has not mentioned any reason behind his decision in the resignation letter.

"The speaker has accepted Bhayani's resignation," Gujarat assembly secretary DM Patel said, as reported by PTI.

Bhayani was the Kerjiwal-led party's one of the five MLAs elected in the state in the last assembly elections which saw the BJP maintaining its winning streak with a whopping 156 seats in the 182-member assembly.
