Greater Noida Police on Tuesday arrested builder Abhay Kumar, a named accused in the engineer death case, in a key breakthrough in the ongoing investigation. Police officials said Abhay Kumar had been named in the FIR registered in connection with the engineer’s death. His arrest follows sustained investigation and questioning by the Knowledge Park police. Authorities confirmed that Kumar is associated with the MZ Wishtown project, which is now under scrutiny as part of the case.

Lotus Green Also Under Scanner

Officials said a case had also been registered earlier in connection with the Lotus Green project, indicating that the investigation extends beyond a single development. Earlier, a 27-year-old software engineer, Yuvraj Mehta, lost his life after his car plunged into a water-filled pit at a construction site in Noida’s Sector 150, triggering widespread outrage and administrative action. The engineer, who worked with a Gurugram-based firm, was returning home amid dense fog when the accident occurred late on Friday.

Medical Findings Disclose Suffocation Under Water

Medical findings revealed that he suffocated underwater and also suffered cardiac arrest. His father, Raj Kumar Mehta, alleged negligence by local authorities and demanded accountability to prevent similar tragedies in the future. In response, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe, directing it to submit a report within five days. Following the incident, Noida Authority CEO M Lokesh was removed from his post.

Case Registered Against Builders Last Night

Police registered a case against builders MJ Wishtown Planner Limited and Lotus Green Construction Private Limited based on the family’s complaint, even as they denied negligence in the rescue operation. A witness claimed rescue efforts were delayed, while residents protested over inadequate barricading and lack of reflectors at the accident-prone site. After the protests, the Noida Authority installed barricades at the location.
