"Former Indian cricketer Azharuddin and two others have been booked for cheating a travel agent. We are investigating the matter. If the payment is made in court, they will get immediate relief or else the trio will be arrested," Investigating officer PSI Amarnath D Nagre confirmed.
Azharuddin posted a video on Twitter rubbished the travel agent's claims and said he would be taking requisite legal action over his name being falsely dragged into the matter.
"I strongly rubbish the false FIR filed against me in Aurangabad. I'm consulting my legal team, and would be taking actions as necessary," Azhar said.
Earlier on Wednesday, a local police officer in Aurangabad stated that they have booked an FIR against the former cricketer for allegedly duping Danish Tours & Travels' proprietor Shahab Y Mohammed of Rs Rs 2.10 million. Investigating Officer AD Nagre of the City Chowk police station told IANS, "We have lodged a first information report against Mujeeb Khan (Aurangabad), Sudheesh Avikkal (Kerala), Mohammed Azharuddin (Hyderabad). No arrests have been made and further investigations are underway."
In his complaint, Shahab said when he asked for the payment, Khan's associate Sudesh Awakkal sent an e-mail saying he has transferred Rs 10.6 lakh to him, but it was not received, the official said.
"I know Khan for years, as he would often book air tickets for Azharuddin. I never faced an issue in the past. This time Khan asked me to book two tickets to Europe for Azharuddin and Avikkal. They travelled from Mumbai to Dubai, then to Paris on Emirates Airlines on November 9, and returned to Mumbai via Delhi on November 12. The tickets cost Rs 20.96 lakh.
