The smaller Scrambler now comes with new electronic aids and design changes
After giving us the Scrambler 1100, Ducati has now silently updated its now-smaller Scrambler with design changes, electronic rider aids and more.
First the cosmetic changes. The Scrambler 800 now comes with an all-new paint scheme. It also gets a beefier redesigned tank panel and a muffler cover, similar to what we’ve seen on its elder sibling, the Scrambler 1100. Other changes include brushed aluminium finishing on the engine casing and 10-spoke machined alloy wheels. On the technological front, the Scrambler now gets a new LED DRL setup for the headlight, self-cancelling indicators and a hydraulic clutch. In addition to this, the motorcycle now also comes with cornering ABS.
Powering the Ducati Scrambler 800 is still the same 803cc air-cooled L-Twin engine as before. It produces 74PS of power at 8250rpm and 67Nm of torque at 5750rpm, and is mated to a 6-speed transmission. While that doesn’t translate to a whirlwind of power, we did find that the engine packs enough juice to keep you entertained, whether accelerating through the gears or cruising at high speeds on a highway.
The baby Scrambler is built upon a tubular steel trellis frame, which is suspended upon 41mm Kayaba USD forks at the front and a side-mounted monoshock unit at the rear, adjustable for preload and rebound. Ducati says they’ve improved the suspension setup quite a bit, but we should be able to ascertain that only when we get our hands on the bike. Braking is handled by a 330mm disc with radial 4-piston callipers at the front and a 240mm disc at the back. As mentioned above, it gets 10-spoke alloy wheels which are shod with Pirelli MT 110/80 R18 at the front and 180/55 R17 tyres at the rear.
Ducati is yet to reveal the pricing of the 2019 Scrambler 800. Considering that it now comes with some premium features like the Scrambler 1100 and also borrow some design cues from its bigger sibling, this should help the company justify a price hike, which it most probably will incur. The outgoing model currently starts at Rs 7.23 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), and we’re expecting that to go up by Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000. The 2019 Scrambler 800 is expected to be launched by November of this year.
