The State Election Commission on Wednesday announced the results for elections to five wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as per which, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party bagged four seats of the five seats. Congress party won on one seat while the Bharatiya Janata Party suffered a humiliating defeat.
As per the results announced, AAP's Dhirender Kumar was declared the winner from Kalyanpuri ward. Party's Vijay Kumar defeated BJP candidate Om Prakash and won the Trilokpuri ward. The Shalimar Bagh ward was won by AAP's Sunita Mishra while Ram Chander emerged victorious for the Rohini-C ward.
The fifth went in Congress's kitty. Congressman Chaudhary Zubair Ahmed has won the Muslim-dominated Chauhan Banger ward.
Upon winning four of the 5 seats, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia lauded the victory and asserted confidence in 2022 polls.
"It (Victory) shows that people are happy with AAP's work. In 2015 we won 67/70 seats, in 2020 we won 62/70 seats & now in MCD by-polls, by giving us 4/5 seats, people want us to continue. While BJP's 0 seats show they're upset with them," Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal said.
