The third phase of Coronavirus vaccination drive, which was scheduled to commence on May 1 for 18-44 age group population, will now finally start from Wednesday as per the availability of doses. Vaccination against COVID-19 will be on the basis of pre-registration, and will take place between 9am and 5pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday said the state has recorded a 5 per cent drop in positivity rate of COVID infection, from 27 percent to 22 per cent, adding that recovery rate is at 84.07 per cent, which is the highest in the country.
Tope said, "Positivity rate in the state has dropped from 27 to 22 per cent. We are testing 2.80 lakh persons daily and there is been no fall in testing. From 63,000, the tally for COVID patients has come down to 61,000. At 84.07 per cent, our recovery rate is the highest in the country."
Rajasthan on Tuesday recorded the highest single-day spike of 16,974 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, pushing its infection tally to 6,68,221, the health department said in a bulletin. The number of active cases in the state also rose to 1,97,045. 154 fresh COVID-19 fatalities were registered in the state. 4,66,310 COVID-19 patients have recovered in Rajasthan so far.
To contain the surge of COVID-19 cases, Assam on Tuesday advanced the night curfew to 6 pm from the current 8 pm after reviewing prevailing Coronavirus situation in the state. The state government has imposed restrictions on the movement of people at public places from tomorrow. As per the order, no meeting/gathering at any open or closed spaces shall be allowed and all ommercial establishments and shops shall be closed at 2 pm everyday.
Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday registered its highest ever single-day Covid death toll with 352 new deaths in last 24 hours. The state also reported 25,858 fresh Covid-19 cases in the same period, as per State Health Department
Presiding over a high-level Covid review meeting on Tuesday, CM Yogi Adityanath directed health department to start a Mega Covid Testing Campaign from May 5 in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh. A door-to-door campaign will be run by Asha and Angandwadi workers to check people with infrared thermometers, their oxygen level with pulse oximeters. In the last 24 hours, 25858 new Covid cases have been confirmed in UP, while 38,683 people have recovered during the same period.
Expressing concern over loss of lives due to oxygen shortage across Punjab, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday sought immediate intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allocation of 50 metric tonne of liquid medical oxygen (LMO) from a nearby source and 20 additional tankers for timely evacuation of the life-saving gas from Bokaro.
Hight Court has directed Centre to show cause as to why contempt not be initiated against it for failing to comply with order on supply of oxygen to Delhi to treat COVID-19 patients. Aftre Supreme Court order, now High Court has also asked Centre to supply 700 MT oxygen daily to Delhi by 'whatever means'.
In order to ensure better movement of liquid medical oxygen (LMO) in Maharashtra, at least 250 tankers carrying the life-saving gas are being fitted with GPS devices to ensure better managemnt and keep a proprt track of their movement. The oxygen supply in the state has increased amid the rise in COVID-19 cases.
"Nearly 50 per cent of the 250 tankers are already fitted with GPS, while the remaining will be fitted with it within a few days. Once all the tankers fitted with these device, their movement can be tracked from the control room," Dhakane said.
As India battles the grim second Coronavirus wave, Health Ministry has taken a major step to ensure effective distribution of the medical and other relief and support material to states and UTs, overwhelmed by spurt in Covid cases. A streamlined and systematic mechanism for allocation of the support supplies received by India has been put into place.
"The steps taken for expeditious clearance on fast track basis are as follows: The goods are given high priority for clearance by the Customs Systems for processing over other goods. Nodal officers also gets alert on email for monitoring and clearance," an official release from Health Ministry said.

The state govt has reduced the quota of oxygen for the Army Base Hospital at Delhi Cantt. Army authorities have taken up the matter with the local authorities through Defence Ministry. Indian Army sources told ANI, Army Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt has enough supplies for the time being and can take care of its patients but the issue has to be addressed shortly otherwise it can lead to shortages.

Expressing concern over surging coronavirus cases in India, America's top public health expert and White House Chief Medical Adviser Dr Anthony Fauci on Monday recommended a nationwide lockdown, massive vaccination drive, and the construction of a large number of makeshift hospitals.
Israel will be sending life-saving equipment to India throughout the week to assist it in the fight against coronavirus, a statement issued here said.
The medical equipment to be sent to India include oxygen generators and respirators.

On Monday, Delhi logged a record 448 COVID-19 deaths in a day and 18,043 cases, the lowest since April 15, with a positivity rate of 29.56 percent, according to a bulletin issued by the Delhi health department on Monday. This is the third day on the trot that the capital has recorded over 400 fatalities due to the deadly virus. The 18,043 fresh cases are the lowest since April 15 when 16,699 people were diagnosed with the disease. The low number of cases can be attributed to fewer tests (61,045) conducted on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the US’ top public health expert and White House Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci has recommended a nationwide lockdown for India followed by a massive vaccination drive and then the construction of a large number of makeshift hospitals.
