Coronavirus LIVE, August 10, Tuesday: The Covid test positivity rate in Kerala continues to hover around 13 per cent, though the number of new Covid cases on Monday were much lesser.
Tamil Nadu continued to record a decline in new infections by adding 1,893 cases taking the overall tally to 25,79,130 till date, the Health department said on Tuesday. As many as 27 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, pushing the toll to 34,367.
Recoveries outnumbered new infections with 1,930 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 25,24,400 leaving 20,363 active cases, a medical bulletin said.

Dr SK Singh, NCDC Director in a press briefing on Tuesday said, "Central Team was sent to Kerala. 1st, to see how the 'test-track-treat' strategy is being implemented, 2nd, surveillance of containment zones with contact tracing being an important factor, 3rd, to check infrastructure of hospitals and 4th, to see the progress of vaccination. Caseload and positivity trend was found to be more than 10. Some districts indicated an increasing trend of positivity rate - Malappuram, Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta. 80% of cases were found to be positive for Delta variant, like other states."

The union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands did not record any new COVID-19 case in the last 24-hours, a health official said on Tuesday. The COVID-19 tally in the archipelago remained at 7,546, he said. The union territory now has only five active COVID-19 cases and all five patients are in the South Andaman district.
The other two districts - North and Middle Andaman and Nicobar - are now COVID-19 free, the official said. A total of 7,412 people have recuperated from COVID-19 so far, including two persons on Monday, he said. The COVID-19 death toll in the union territory remained at 129 as no fresh fatality due to the disease was reported in the last 24 hours.
India has reported 28,204 new cases, the lowest in 147 days. Active caseload is currently at 3,88,508 and recovery rate at 97.45%
The Maharashtra COVID-19 task force has discussed the possibility of granting more relaxations in restrictions while observing precautions, and also deliberated on tackling the possible third wave of the pandemic, requirement of medical oxygen and increasing the pace of vaccination, an official said.
A meeting of the task force, held on Monday evening, was attended by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, state Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte, COVID-19 task force head Dr Sanjay Oak and other members.
The state government is now preparing new guidelines after receiving various suggestions and instructions from doctors, experts and government departments. The focus of the discussion was basically on how to introduce further relaxations while observing precautions, said a government official, who attended the meeting.
He said the government is listing new areas where more relaxations can be introduced.
The task force also discussed issues related to tackling of the possible third wave of the pandemic, requirement of medical oxygen, increasing the pace of vaccination, effective implementation of tracing and tracking, among others, he said.
The state government had excluded malls, cinema halls, theatres, religious places and religious gatherings from the purview of relaxations introduced last week.
With the addition of 183 new cases of coronavirus, the infection count in Maharashtra's Thane district has gone up to 5,47,038, an official said on Tuesday.
These new cases were reported on Monday, he said.
The virus also claimed the lives of six more people, which took the death toll in the district to 11,126.
The COVID-19 mortality rate in Thane stood at 2.03 per cent, the official said.
In neighbouring Palghar district, the COVID-19 case count has gone up to 1,33,759, while the death toll has reached 3,213, another official said.
Maharashtra reports 4,505 fresh Covid-19 cases, 7,568 recoveries, and 68 deaths today.

The meeting of the task force, held in the evening, was attended by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, state chief secretary Sitaram Kunte, state COVID task force head Dr Sanjay Oak and other members.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday said that he would visit all districts bordering Kerala and Maharashtra by next week to take stock of the existing Covid situation.
As per the opinion of Covid Expert Committee, the number of Covid cases increased in Karnataka due to free movement of people from Kerala and Maharashtra. During the first wave also, Covid infection spread rapidly in the state for the same reason, Bommai said.
The Covid test positivity rate in Kerala continues to hover around 13 per cent, though the number of new Covid cases on Monday was 13,049, after 98,640 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, said a statement from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Monday's figures of new cases were lesser, compared to the previous days, since, generally on Sundays, the number of samples sent for testing is also less, compared to other days.
The statement also said that there were 1,69,512 active cases after 20,004 people turned negative.
There were 105 Covid deaths reported taking the death toll to 17,852.
Malappuram district, which has been recording the highest number of daily cases, continued to be in the lead with 2,052 people turning positive followed by Thrissur with 1,762.
