Telangana postpones vaccination for 45+ due to inadequate stock

Vaccination drive postponed in Telangana for 45+ age group waiting for 2nd dose due to inadequate stock of vaccines. The govt of Telangana on Sunday in an official statement said, "In view of inadequate stock of Covaxin vaccine and non-receipt of fresh stocks from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare the second dose drive for persons above 45 years of age is postponed. Details regarding resumption of vaccination drive will be made available subsequently."

Chhattisgarh CM appeals PM Modi for more vaccines

Congress MP Rajiv Satav Passes Away At 46 Due To Covid 19 Complications

Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Rajiv Satav, who tested positive for Covid-19 in April, passed away on Sunday after being on ventilator support at a private hospital in Pune.


Satav, 46, a member of the AICC and considered a bulwark of his party in the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions, had tested positive on April 22. He was later admitted to the city’s Jehangir Hospital and put on ventilator support since his condition worsened, said doctors.

Record 21 new COVID deaths in Meghalaya

Meghalaya on Saturday recorded 21 COVID deaths, the highest in a single day, a senior health official said.

Seventeen of those who died are from the East Khasi Hills district, while two each are from Ri Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills.

The state's COVID toll was 301 after the latest deaths, Health Services Director Aman War said.

Meghalaya also recorded 560 new infections, pushing the number of active cases to 4,338.

The state has so far reported 22,763 cases, War said.

In the last 24 hours, 215 persons recovered from the infection. In all, 18,124 people have recovered.

Four held for trying to extort money by alleging breach of COVID-19 norms

Four `clean-up marshals' have been arrested for trying to extort money from a factory owner after accusing him of not following COVID-19 related norms, police said here on Saturday.

The accused worked with a private security agency which is appointed by the Mumbai civic body to collect fine from those who spit in public places and do not follow other cleanlinesss norms.

As per the complainant, on April 21, Ajit Singh, one of the clean-up marshals, visited him and demanded Rs one lakh after alleging that COVID -19 related norms were not being followed at his factory.

The owner paid him Rs 20,000. However, on Friday again four others visited him and demanded money while making the same allegation.

The owner then approached MIDC Andheri police station.

Assam reports 5,347 fresh COVID cases, 63 more fatalities

 Assam's COVID-19 tally mounted to 3,24,979 on Saturday as 5,347 more people tested positive for the disease, while 63 fresh fatalities pushed the coronavirus death toll to 2,123, a bulletin issued by the National Health Mission here said.

Kamrup (Metro) recorded the highest number of new fatalities at 21, followed by Dibrugarh and Cachar at five each, Bongaigaon, Kamrup (Rural) and Karbi Anglong at three each and Barpeta, Nalbari, Darrang, Golaghat and Sonitpur at two each.

The remaining deaths were reported from several other districts.

At least 1,347 COVID-19 patients died in the state due to other ailments, the bulletin said.

The new cases include 1,012 from Kamrup Metro, 424 from Kamrup (Rural), 343 from Nagaon and 291 from Sontipur.

The fresh COVID cases were detected out of 64,701 tests conducted during the day with the positivity rate at 8.26 per cent, it said.

Overall 94,49,818 samples have so far been tested for COVID-19 in the state.

Assam now has 44,008 active cases.

Shootings of TV serials, films in Bengal to halt from Sunday due to 15-day lockdown

series and films will come to a halt from May 16 in West Bengal as the state government imposed stricter lockdown norms to contain the spread of COVID-19

Shootings of 36 serials, three web series and one film were currently taking place in the state, which will be stopped from Sunday till May 30, Federation of Cine Technicians and Workers of Eastern India President Swarup Biswas told PTI.

"Our request will be to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to see if something can be done so that hundreds of people involved in this profession are not rendered unemployed. It will be better if they can carry on their work following all COVID safety procedures," Biswas said.

Karnataka's Grim Situation

With 3,500 deaths, Karnataka reported the highest Covid death toll between May 7 and 13 since the outbreak of the pandemic.


As opposed to 3,388 deaths recorded during the peak of the first Covid wave in the month of August 2020, 5,000 deaths were reported in the month of May this year in Karnataka with Bangalore accounting for 2,700 of the cases alone. The daily death average for the state so far in May has been around 400 with 211 in Bengaluru.

Death Tally In Maharashtra Continues To Rise

Deaths in Maharashtra linked to COVID-19 remained worryingly high on Saturday, signalling that even though the daily infections have been declining lately, the deadly second wave of the coronavirus pandemic is far from over.


On Friday, Maharashtra, which had been consistently logging over 60,000 daily Covid cases last month, reported less than 40,000 cases after several weeks. Today, the daily Covid cases dropped further -- the state logged 34,898 cases.

West Bengal's Death Tally At All Time High

West Bengal reported 144 new deaths linked to COVID-19 on Saturday - its highest figure since the beginning of the pandemic - as the proportion of coronavirus tests coming back positive also reached an all-time high of 9.8 per cent.


With 19,511 new cases reported, the number of daily infections came below 20,000 after 10 days. The state has reported 13,137 deaths and over 11 lakh cases so far.


Kolkata reported 3,951 new cases and 30 deaths. North 24 Parganas district had 4,279 cases and 35 deaths.

Maharashtra, however, witnessed a sharp spike in deaths due to the virus in 24 hours - from 695 on Friday to 960 today.


Coronavirus vaccinations have practically come to a halt in Kashmir with many districts reporting zero doses administered on Saturday.


Only 504 people were vaccinated across 10 districts in the valley of 1.4 crore of people. Srinagar district, home to the capital city, reported zero vaccination.


Official sources say no vaccines are available in the region because supplies have not been replenished in the last week.
