Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS: Delhi Reports 12,481 Fresh Cases; Mumbai's Daily Caseload Dips Down To 1,717

Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, May 11: India on Monday recorded a significant drop in the number of daily Covid-19 cases. The country lodged 3,66,161 fresh infections 3,53,818 discharges and 3,754 deaths. Two of the worst hit states - Delhi and Maharashtra witnessed signs of slight slowdown in fatalities as well as fresh cases of Coronavirus. In the national capital, for the first time in days, recoveries surpassed fresh infections as 13,306 people were discharged. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization said that the Covid-19 variant spreading in India, which is facing an explosive outbreak, appears to be more contagious and has been classified as being “of concern."

Terminal 2 Of Delhi Airport to Be Temporarily Shut From May 18 Midnight

The Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport will temporarily close Terminal 2 of the due to a fall in passenger traffic, CNBC-TV18 reported citing airport officials. It will remain shut from midnight of May 18.


Daily traffic at the airport has fallen to around 30,000 passengers currently, the report stated.


 

9,200 Concentrators, 5,243 O2 Cylinders, 3.44L Remdesivir Vials Delivered To States: Govt

A total of 9,200 oxygen concentrators, 5,243 oxygen cylinders, 19 oxygen-generation plants and about 3.44 lakh Remdesivir vials received as global aid were delivered or dispatched through road and air to various states and Union territories between April 27 and May 10, the health ministry informed.

UP Reports Over 20,000 Fresh Cases In 24 Hrs

Uttar Pradesh reports 20,463 new cases of Coronavirus along with 29,358 discharges and 306 deaths in the last 24 hours. Active cases in the state now stands at 2,16, 057 meanwhile overal caseload surges to 15,45,212. 

Karnataka To Get 2 Cr Vaccine Doses Through Global Tender

Two crore COVID vaccine doses will be procured through global tender in order to meet the increased demand and to facilitate vaccination of the age group of 18-44 years, Deputy Chief Minister and state COVID task force head C N Ashwath Narayan said on Tuesday.


"Till now, we had depended only on vaccines supplied by the central government and it was not procured from the open market by floating tender. Now, it has been instructed to float the tender and to complete the process within seven days," Narayan said.

Gujarat Extends Night Curfew In 36 Cities Till May 18

In the view of significantly surging Coronavirus cases, Gujarat government on Tuesday decided to extend the night curfew (8 pm - 6 am) in as many as 36 cities of the state for a week till May 18.

Delhi Positivity Rate Falls Below 18%

Witnessing a decline, the national capital reported 12,481 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest since April 12 and the daily positivity rate dipping below 18 per cent for the first time since April 14.


Drop in both number of daily cases and positivity rate in the last few days was an indication that the national capital, which witnessed over 28,000 new cases in a day and positivity rate over 36 per cent (April 22), may find some relief in coming days.

With Record 108 Covid Deaths On Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh On The Edge

Andhra Pradesh continues to reel under the impact of covid, with the state reporting an all-time high death toll of 108 deaths on Tuesday. The covid tally also continues to hover above the 20,000 mark, with 20,345 new cases reported in the 24 hours ending 10 am, Tuesday.

AAP Bought No Ventilators Last Year, Using Those Provided Under PM-CARES: BJP

BJP leader Meenakashi Lekhi Tuesday alleged that the Delhi government did not buy any new ventilators last year and is using those delivered through the PM-CARES Fund.


"If you talk about ICU beds in Delhi, they haven't increased them at all. The (AAP) government is using the ventilators given through the PM-CARES Fund. It did not buy a single new ventilator last year," the BJP leader claimed.

Office of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor on Tuesday said The J&K Government has taken several measures to help those who unfortunately lost their loved ones to Covid-19. Senior citizens who have lost only earning member of the family will be provided special pension for life. Children, who've lost their parents to COVID pandemic will be provided with special scholarship by th's e govt. The Govt has decided to provide Rs 1000 per month to all registered construction workers, ponywalas, palkiwalas, pithuwalas for the next two months. The Government has directed all concerned officers to ensure the supply of ration to all ration card holders on priority. In these challenging times, the Old-Age Homes, Orphanages will be extended all the support from the government including rations. 

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain's statement on less testing in national capital

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Tuesday said, "In the last few days, positivity rate has declined from 36% to 19.1% with the caseload also going down from 28,000 per day to about 12,500. Till we reach positivity rate at below 5% and caseload below 3000-4000 cases, we can't be at ease. The wave is very much there, but seemingly its peak is gradually declining since April end. Everyday about 80,000 tests being done. Due to lockdown, people aren't coming out, while earlier people were going out with everybody being tested." 

Corona cases going down, no shortage of ICU & Oxygen beds in Delhi: CM Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said, "Corona cases are going down in Delhi, so is the second wave. With your cooperation lockdown was successful. We've increased number of Oxygen beds in past few days. On Monday, we started 500 new ICU beds near GTB Hospital. Now there's no shortage of ICU and Oxygen beds in Delhi. Right now, we're administering 1.25 lakh doses every day. We'll soon begin vaccinating over 3 lakh people every day. We aim to vaccinate all residents of Delhi within next 3 months. But we're facing vaccine shortage. We're left with stock that will last only a few days. "

England Reports Zero New Coronavirus Deaths For First Time In 14 Months

England for the first time in last 14 month, reported no new deaths from Covid-19. Data released by Public Health England on Monday afternoon showed no new deaths in the country. 126,605 people have died from Covid-19 in the U.K. since the outbreak of novel Coronavirus in the country. 


After hitting a peak of 70,000 fresh cases of Covid-19 per day in January, the U.K. is now recording an average of less than 2,000 new daily infections.
