New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said that it was unfortunate that opposition members were not given a chance to pay tribute to CDS Bipin Rawat and others who died in the chopper crash, reported ANI. 


Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today presented his statement in the Parliament regarding the chopper air crash incident. After his statement, Kharge demanded that some time be given for the opposition members to pay tribute to the deceased but the request was turned down. 


“After the Defence Minister's statement in Rajya Sabha, the Opposition demanded 1-2 minutes for each MP to pay tribute to CDS Gen Bipin Rawat & others who died in the chopper crash. But we were not allowed. It is unfortunate & we condemn this attitude,” Mallikarjun Kharge said. 






Earlier today Rajnath Singh presented his statement in the Lok Sabha where he informed that lone survivor of the chopper air crash Group Captain Varun Singh’s condition was “critical but stable.” He further announced that Commander of the Indian Air Force’s training command,   


Air Marshal Manvendra Singh was heading the tri-services inquiry into the air crash of Mi-17V-5 helicopter. 


On Wednesday, a Russian-made Mi-17V-5 helicopter carrying Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 other members on board, crashed in the Nilgiri Hills near Coonoor. The helicopter crashed shortly after it took off from Army Base in Sulur in Coimbatore. The helicopter was bound for Defence Staff Services College in Wellington. 


As reported by IANS, the data recorder of the helicopter has been recovered. 25 teams lead by Wing Commander R Bhardwaj recovered the black box
