Chandigarh: With a slight respite in the daily covid tally after the devastating second wave of the deadly disease, the Chandigarh Administration has announced some relaxations in lockdown restrictions, allowing all shops to reopen for a few hours on weekdays in the union territory. 


As per the order, all shops can remain open from 9 am to 3 pm on weekdays while adhering to COVID-19 protocols, however, only shops selling essential items will be allowed to remain open on weekends.

Night curfew to continue from 6 PM to 5 AM while the weekend curfew will be in place from 6 PM on May 28 to 5 AM on May 31 in Chandigarh. 


Only essential shops will be allowed to remain open during the weekend curfew while all shops will be allowed to remain open from 9 AM to 3 PM, following COVID protocols.  


All shopping malls, cinema halls, theatres, museums, gym, libraries, spa, salons, Sukhna Lake and Rock Garden will continue to remain closed. Restaurants will be allowed to operate for home delivery and take-aways.

Ever since the outbreak of second wave of Covid-19, the strict lockdown has been imposed in several states and cities across the country in an attempt to control the spread of the deadly cirus. In Chandigarh, the lockdown was imposed on May 4 and since then, the same has continued along with night curfew and weekend curfew.


On Sunday, the UT recorded a total of 10 deaths and 360 new COVID-19 cases. With this, Chandigarh now has 4,874 active cases while the death toll has reached 702.
