Ten people are feared trapped as a two-storey godown collapsed in Maharashtra's Bhiwandi on Saturday. Officials said several people living and working on the premises could be trapped inside. Rescue and relief operations were initiated at the site in Valpada area of Mankoli as several people are feared trapped in the debris, said Avinash Sawant, the chief of the regional disaster management cell.     


The ground-plus-two-storey building in Wardhaman Compound collapsed at around 1.45 pm. Four families resided on the upper floors, while labourers worked on the ground floor, he said. Fire engines from Bhiwandi, Thane and other surrounding areas have been deployed for search and rescue operations, he said, adding further details about the incident were awaited, PTI reported.






Maha Security Guard Dies In Slab Collapse


A security guard was killed after a portion of a slab collapsed on him at an under-construction college in Nagpur on Saturday, a police official said. The incident occurred at the School of Scholars (SOS) College in the Wanadongri area of Nagpur, said the official from Hingna police station.


Victim Ravindra Umredkar was on duty at the time of the accident. He got trapped under the debris and died on the spot, the official said, adding that a case of accidental death has been registered. 


In another incident, two men sustained burn injuries in a fire at a four-storey accommodation for paying guests in the Sushant Lok area here on Friday morning, officials said, as reported by PTI. The fire caused substantial damage to the first and second floors of the building located in C block of Sushant Lok, they said, adding that teams of the fire brigade and police reached the spot and rescued 11 people. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital, the officialsaid.
