Air pollution in Delhi-NCR | Centre expresses unwillingness before the Supreme Court to ask its employees to work from home and instead it has advised its employees in Delhi to resort to carpooling to reduce the number of vehicles used by them for commuting.
Delhi-NCR recorded its air quality in the very poor category on Wednesday morning and no major improvement is likely until Sunday, authorities said.

According to the SAFAR, the Delhi AQI will likely remain at the lower end of ‘severe’ on Wednesday. “Surface winds are likely to be very calm with a low ventilation index pushing AQI to severe by tomorrow and fluctuate between severe to an upper end of very poor thereafter until November 18. “Intrusion of stubble burning related pollutants into Delhi is not likely for the next two days due to unfavorable (winds coming from east direction),” it said.
The CAQM has directed Delhi and the NCR states to stop construction and demolition activities in the region till November 21, barring railway services/railway stations, metro rail corporation services, including stations, airports, and inter-state bus terminals (ISBTS), and national security/defence-related activities/ projects of national importance subject to strict compliance of the C&D Waste Management Rules and dust control norms. Trucks carrying non-essential items have been banned from entering Delhi till Sunday in a bid to contain the spiralling air pollution levels.

The Kartarpur Sahib Corridor -- the road to Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Pakistan -- will reopen today, two days before the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted on Tuesday, saying the decision will benefit a large number of Sikh pilgrims. The Centre had blamed Pakistan for not reopening the 4.4 km corridor, which has been shut for more than a year.
"In a major decision, that will benefit large numbers of Sikh pilgrims, PM @Narendramodi govt has decided to re-open the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor from tomorrow, Nov 17. This decision reflects the immense reverence of Modi govt towards Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and our Sikh community," Shah had tweeted.
A night curfew will be imposed in Jammu winter capital city from Wednesday as COVID-19 positivity rate is on the rise in the region, a top district official said here.
Violation of the restrictions will invite strict action, District Magistrate Anshul Garg warned on Tuesday.
"In view of increasing positivity rate in Jammu, DDMA imposes night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am from 17th November (Wednesday) onwards," Garg said in a tweet.
He advised people living in the city to follow COVID-19 SOP and get fully vaccinated.
All station house officers and tehsildars shall ensure that announcements are made on public address systems to make people aware of the new development, an order issued by the district magistrate stated.
The DM said the district disaster management authority (DDMA) held a detailed review of the Covid situation in the city and decided that immediate measures are required as the positivity rate has increased by 0.2 per cent recently
