CM Kejriwal Moves Motion Of Confidence In Delhi Assembly, Discussions Today:
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal moved a motion of confidence in the Assembly, a day before his appearance in a city court on an Enforcement Directorate complaint about skipping summonses in the excise policy case.
The motion will be debated in the Assembly on Saturday in the presence of ruling Aam Aadmi Party MLAs and Opposition Leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, after seven of the eight BJP legislators were suspended for the remainder of the session for allegedly interfering with the Lt Governor's address on Thursday.
This is the second time the Kejriwal administration has requested a trust vote in the 70-member assembly. In the current Assembly, the AAP has 62 MLAs, while the BJP has eight.
Ram Niwas Goel, Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, stated that the discussion on Kejriwal's confidence motion will take place on Saturday.
A Delhi court has summoned Kejriwal to appear before it on February 17 on a complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for skipping summonses in an excise policy-related case, noting that the AAP chief was "legally bound" to comply.
The ED had petitioned the court after Kejriwal ignored five summonses from the investigation agency for questioning in a Delhi liquor policy-related money laundering case. Earlier this week, the ED issued its sixth summons to Kejriwal for questioning. He has been summoned to testify before the federal agency on February 19.
Jailed Ex-Pak PM Imran Khan's Party To Hold Nationwide Protests On Feb 17:
Imprisoned former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's party called for nationwide "peaceful protests" on Saturday against its "marginalisation" in the country's politics, saying it will not allow the people's mandate to be "stolen" by rival parties.
Two of Pakistan's major political parties, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), announced on Tuesday that they will form a coalition government following the inconclusive February 8 elections.
Their move means that Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party will no longer be in power, despite independent candidates backed by it winning the most seats in the National Assembly.
In a shift in strategy, the PTI announced that it will hold nationwide protests against alleged election rigging over the weekend, in addition to attending national and provincial assemblies.
The party had previously chosen to boycott or walk out of the assemblies while protesting, but the new strategy demonstrated that it wanted to build pressure both within Parliament and on the streets to press for its demand to correct the results, which it claims were rigged.
