Canadian Police Arrest 3 Indian Nationals In Killing Of Khalistan Separatist Nijjar: Reports

Canadian authorities arrested three individuals believed to be Indian citizens on Friday, suspected of being part of an alleged assassination team assigned by the Indian government to kill Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey last year, PTI cited reports.

Relations between India and Canada became tense after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suggested in September last year the potential involvement of Indian operatives in Nijjar's killing. India has rejected Trudeau's accusations as baseless and driven by ulterior motives.

CTV News cited a senior government source stating that three individuals have been apprehended and charged in connection with the murder of Sikh activist Nijjar.

Legal documents indicate that Karanpreet Singh, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karan Brar are each accused of first-degree murder and conspiracy to murder concerning Nijjar's death.

Nijjar, aged 45 and a Canadian citizen, was fatally shot outside his gurdwara in Surrey, B.C., on June 18, 2023.

A report by Global News identified the suspects as Indian nationals.
