The X7 is BMW’s first attempt at building an SUV of this size. The X7 is based on the same CLAR platform that underpins the 7 Series and 5 Series sedans. The design is similar to that of the 7 Series facelift, with front grille being even larger in the SUV. The X7 will command road presence unlike any other SUV and like its primary rival, the Mercedes-Benz GLS, it is a seven-seater with three rows of seats.

The xDrive30d DPE Signature variant is powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 265PS of max power and 620Nm of peak torque. The xDrive 40i uses a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol, 6-cylinder engine that dishes out 340PS of max power and 450N of peak torque. The diesel X7 can sprint from 0-100kmph in 7 seconds while the petrol version can reach the same milestone in just 6.1 seconds. Both variants use an 8-speed automatic transmission and also come equipped with BMW’s all-wheel-drive (xDrive) system.

BMW’s biggest SUV gets features like BMW Live Cockpit Professional, adaptive air suspension on both axles, two 10.2-inch full HD screens in the second row that respond to touch inputs, a 16-speaker Harmon Kardon music system, a panoramic sunroof, Parking Assistant Plus with Surround View Camera (automatically parks in tight places), a Reversing Assistant that keep a record of the last 50 metres driven, six airbags as well as Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) that includes Corner Braking Control (CBC).
