At least five people were injured and three people have been reportedly killed after a blast occurred at a oxygen plant in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow. The explosion reportedly took place during refilling of oxygen cylinders in state capital's Chinhat area. Rescue operations are underway and the fire has been doused.


According to initial reports, the huge explosion occurred while workers were refilling oxygen cylinder at the Katy Welding Store Oxygen Plant in Chinhat at around 3 pm.  Three workers present at the plant were killed in the blast while five others were badly injured.

All the injured have been admitted to the hospital. Police commissioner DK Thakur and District Magistrate Abhishek Prakash, along with other officers, reached the location and ordered an inquiry into the case.


The explosion was so horrific that the roof of the oxygen refiling station blew up. The DM says that all dead and injured are the employees of the plant.  Currently, the forensic team and the dog squad have reached the blast site and are investigating the incident.


Earlier last week, a worker was killed and two people were injured in an oxygen cylinder blast at Panki Oxygen Plant in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.  In Panki Gas Plant located in Dada Nagar Industrial Area, a person from a hospital in Kidwai Nagar came for refilling a oxygen cylinder after which the explosion occurred. In this, an employee died on the spot.
