New Delhi: Controversy erupted after state Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackrey was "cat-called" by BJP MLAs protesting outside the Maharashtra assembly building, last week.
Now, a video has emerged which shows Nitesh Rane, son of Union Minister Narayan Rane, "meowed" at Aaditya Thackrey as he entered the legislature building.
Shiv Sena MLAs on Monday demanded that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Nitesh Rane should be suspended for his inappropriate conduct targeting Thackeray.
Thereafter, the proceedings of the House were adjourned for some time due to the sloganeering and uproar by Shiv Sena members. The issue was raised by Shiv Sena MLA Suhas Kande after the Question Hour.
After the House resumed proceedings, Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis assured that Nitesh would be "reprimanded" for his behavior.
"Mr Rane made 'meow' sounds looking in the direction of Aaditya Thackeray", complained Shiv Sena MLA Suhas Kande.
"Aaditya Thackeray, being a dignified man, walked away ignoring Nitesh Rane. Nitesh Rane is doing this all the time. We will not tolerate the insult of our leader," Mr Kande said, adding that either Rane should apologise or he should be suspended.
As the argument between the two parties heated up, Aaditya Thackeray was seen leaving the House.
Former CM and Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis argued, "It is not right to suspend a member for an incident that happened outside the house."
Fadnavis also pointed out that there was a time when Shiv Sena's Bhaskar Jadhav also would "make noises" when Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal entered the House.
