Kolkata: Chairpersons of eight BJP Committees in West Bengal Legislative Assembly will resign from their positions on Tuesday after sharing their grievances against the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman appointment.
The MLAs are expected to formally handover their resignation letters after meeting the governor in the afternoon and let go of their positions in charge.
The resignation comes on the back of the BJP's grievance against Trinamool Congress' appointment of two-times turncoat Mukul Roy as the PAC chairman. Roy, who was elected to legislature with a BJP ticket, defected to its erstwhile party, TMC in June. Despite returning to the TMC, he did not resign as an MLA.
Senior TMC leader Mukul Roy, who has recently switched over to the ruling camp in West Bengal after winning the Assembly polls on a BJP ticket, was on Friday appointed as the chairperson of in the Assembly by Speaker Biman Banerjee.
The delegation of the resignees will be accompanied by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who had previously announced that these resignations will be submitted to Governor, Jagdeep Dhankar as a means of protest against Roy's appointment as PAC Chairman.
The MLAs will be reaching Assembly shortly and meet Adhikari. Then they shall reach Raj Bhavan, the governor's residence at 4 PM to complete the resignation process formally.
Meanwhile, a local Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead on Monday by unidentified assailants when he was returning home on a two-wheeler in Mangalkot in Purba Bardhaman district, police said, according to PTI. Ashim Das, the ''anchal'' (area) president of the party, was shot from a close range by bike-borne miscreants around 6.30 pm, a senior police officer of the district told PTI.
Das was declared brought-dead when locals took him to a nearby hospital, he said.
