Just a week after we reported news of Bajaj testing the ABS-equipped Avenger 220 twins, the bikes have been spotted for the first time at a dealer yard. The pictures show the Avenger 220 Cruise and the Avenger 220 Street with single-channel ABS. Bajaj has quietly launched the updated bikes and some dealerships have started accepting bookings for the twins for an amount of Rs 1,000. As for deliveries, a timeframe of around Fenruary 2019 is likely.

Our sources also confirmed that the Avenger 220 ABS will be priced at Rs 1.02 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The non-ABS variants of the bikes retail for Rs 95,706 (ex-showroom Mumbai), which means Bajaj is charging buyers a premium of around Rs 6800 for the safety net of single-channel ABS. The bikes are also likely to get a rear-wheel lift mitigation (RLM) sensor to prevent the rear wheel from lifting under hard braking. The move will also help the Avenger 220 comply with the upcoming safety regulations that mandate ABS for all bikes above 150cc from 1 April 2019 onwards.

Apart from the introduction of ABS, the rest of the bikes’ mechanicals are expected to remain unchanged. This means they will be powered by the same 220cc, air- and oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine that churns out 19 PS of power and 17.5 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The bikes’ underpinnings too will be carried over from the standard Avenger 220.
