New Delhi: At least five people were killed, and a few others were injured after being run over by a speeding train near Bathuva under G Sigadam Mandal in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday night.


Due to alarm chain pulling, the Secunderabad-Guwahati Superfast Express halted close to the Batuva railway gate. Due to the high heat, some passengers got down from the train to get cool air, according to the local police as reported by Hindu.


Passengers who got down from the train were relaxing on the other track while the speeding Konark Express which was coming on the track ran over them, resulting in their immediate death.


"So far, we have identified six bodies. The Government Railway Police are reaching the accident spot to ascertain if there are more casualties," Superintendent of Police, Srikakulam, G R Radhika told PTI over the phone.


In a press release issued by the Chief Minister's Office, it was said that "Some people have died and some have been injured after a train hit them in Batuwa area of ​​G Sigdam Mandal. The Chief Minister expressed concern over the dead and ordered the authorities to provide good medical treatment to the injured."

As per nearby individuals, the loss of life could go up as numerous different travelers got serious injuries. The injured people were moved to the close by Cheepurupalli emergency clinic.


While talking to senior officials in the railways and the district administration, Minister for Education Botsa Satyanarayana, who represents the Cheepurupalli constituency, stressed taking up immediate relief measures. Senior railway officials from Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam are likewise observing the situation.
