Andhra CM Jagan Reddy Lays Foundation Stone For Housing Project Worth Rs 1,830 Crore In Guntur

As many as 50,793 houses will be constructed in Krishnayapalem layout under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) – YSR BLC (U) scheme.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone for the construction of over 50,000 houses in Guntur district on Monday. The housing project, estimated to cost Rs 1,830 crore, will be implemented in the Krishnayapalem layout under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)-YSR BLC (U) scheme.

As many as 50,793 houses will be constructed in the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) area, spread across 1,400 acres, within the Assembly constituencies of Mangalagiri and Tadikonda. The project encompasses 25 layouts.

Speaking at a public meeting in Venkatapalem after laying the foundation stone, Chief Minister Reddy called Amravati a "social capital".

Reddy assured that all beneficiaries would receive the necessary documents for their houses through 25 counters. The mapping of beneficiaries to volunteers and counters has been done for a smooth handover of the documents.

In addition to the houses, the layouts will also include facilities such as anganwadi centres, schools, shopping centres, and parking areas, the CM said.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the majority of beneficiaries chose the option of having the government construct houses for them, at an estimated cost of Rs 2.75 lakh per unit. He said the state government had already provided 30.75 lakh housing sites to eligible poor people across the state, and construction was underway for an additional 22 lakh houses.

Jagan Reddy said, despite facing numerous obstacles, the foundation for the housing project was laid successfully. He alleged that TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan, along with others, attempted to obstruct the project, even resorting to legal action.

Referring to them as "opponents of the poor", the Chief Minister revealed that a total of 18 cases were filed in the High Court and five in the Supreme Court against the distribution of houses to the poor, and added that he managed to win the legal battles to go ahead with the project.
