Hyderabad: Veteran Telugu actor-turned-politician Mohan Babu on Thursday announced that a university would be set up in Tirupati in his name.


For the past three decades, he has lent a helping hand by providing free education through Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Institutions located in the temple-town Tirupati.


"With the blessings of my parents, fans and well-wishers ... I feel honored to announce Mohan Babu University."


"The seeds sown in Sree Vidyanikethan have now grown into a Kalpavriksha. Your 30 years of trust and my life’s mission has now culminated into a universe of innovative learning. With gratitude, I offer Mohan Babu University in Tirupati. Your love is my strength ad I am confident that you will continue to support this dream too,” Actor-turned-politician Mohan Babu took to his Twitter handle.






Mohan Babu caters to 25 per cent of poor students at Sree Vidyanikethan College, irrespective of caste, creed or region. 


The Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Trust, also referred to as SVET, was established in 1993 by Mohan Babu. The college is located 14 kilometres from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. Under its aegis, SVET has several educational institutions across different disciplines. Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Trust supports students by way of scholarships.
