Like the exterior, the interior also features subtle updates only
A few months ago, we brought to you the exterior spy shots of the BMW X1 facelift, which is expected to go on sale globally by 2019. Though camouflaged, the spy shots revealed updated headlamps, taillamps, front and rear bumpers and a retouched front grille, which seems larger.
Now, the latest set of spy shots unveil the facelifted SUV’s interiors. Like the exterior, changes on the inside are also subtle. The most noticeable change has to be the larger touchscreen (like the 10.25-inch unit on the new 3 Series) sitting atop the central console. The pre-facelift X1 gets either a 6.5- or 8.8-inch unit, depending on the variant.
Other changes include a new gear knob, which looks sleeker. Although not visible in the test mule, BMW might also introduce an all-digital instrument cluster. It will most likely be the 12.3-inch unit from the new 3 Series, since the majority of X1’s rivals, including the Volvo XC40 and the upcoming second-gen Audi Q3, get it.
The engine lineup for the 2019 X1 is expected to remain same as the current X1. In India, it is available with 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. While the diesel engine makes 190PS/ 400Nm with an 8-speed AT, the petrol engine is good for 192PS/280Nm with a 7-speed DCT. This BSVI-compliant petrol engine has been recently introduced in India. Earlier, the X1 was a diesel-only offering in the country.
The 2019 BMW X1 is expected to make its India debut by the end of 2019. Its prices are expected to remain at par with the outgoing model, which is priced from Rs 34.50 lakh to Rs 44.5 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). Besides the Audi Q3 and the Volvo XC40, the BMW X1 rivals the Mercedes-Benz GLA too.
