The aesthetic changes to the 2018 Mahindra KUV100 are likely to take away the quirk of the outgoing model.

Mahindra is readying the mid-cycle update/facelift model of its entry-level model, the KUV1OO. It did get off to a fairly decent start but its sales dwindled post the launch of the Ignis. The facelift model is likely to come with a slightly toned down styling to attract a wider spectrum of customers. The updated Mahindra KUV100 is expected to be launched in the first half of the next year with a 2018 Indian Auto Expo debut on the cards.

The test mules were heavily camouflaged and were spied on the Mumbai-Pune expressway. Look closely and you’ll notice the redesigned rear bumper; we expect a reworked front bumper as well.

A couple of test mules spied earlier indicated that it will have dual-barrel headlamps. However, it seems like Mahindra has kept the ‘sunglass inspired’ headlamps design, which, perhaps, is not to everybody’s taste.

Though the alloy wheels are camouflaged, they look similar to the new 15-inch wheels Mahindra introduced with the 2017 dual-tone themed version of the KUV100 (launched in January 2017). On the inside, it is expected to carry forward the all-black interior, which was also introduced with the 2017 model (check out the image below). We expect Mahindra to offer a touchscreen infotainment since almost every rival of the KUV100 offers the same.

Mechanically, the 2018 Mahindra KUV100 is expected to carry forward the same set of engines. Options include 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The petrol puts out 83PS/115Nm, while the diesel produces 78PS/190Nm. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Expect Mahindra to offer an AMT (automated manual transmission) option with the updated KUV100 as its arch rival, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, offers the same with its petrol and diesel engines.
