New Delhi: Ford India has announced that it will launch its iconic Ford Mustang sports car on July 13, in India, in an event scheduled at the Buddh International Circuit, at Greater Noida. The sixth generation Ford Mustang will not be a North American model but will be a European spec model with Right Hand Drive configuration. All the previous Mustangs have only been Left Hand Drive configurations.

The sixth generation of the fastback muscle car has been sold in North America since December 2014. Ford India introduced the same Mustang in India in January before showcasing it in February at the 2016 Auto Expo.

While the Ford Mustang is offered with a number of engine specifications internationally, in India, only the 5.0-liter petrol engine will be launched. The 5.0-liter, Ti-VCT, naturally aspirated, V8 engine, will power up to 401 PS and deliver 515 Nm of torque output. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed SelectShift, dual-clutch, automatic transmission as standard; though a manual transmission too is offered internationally.

The pony car will compete in the coupe segment with a hard top, though a convertible is set to follow sometime in the future. The veteran sports car with a 52-year old history will be brought to India via the CBU (Completely Built-Up Unit) route and will be floated into the market at a price of Rs. 50 to Rs. 70 lakh. Segment rivals for the Ford Mustang will be the BMW Z4, Audi TT and the Nissan GT-R, after the launch of the latter.
