We all enjoy looking our best at all times, but wearing makeup for prolonged periods of time can lead to increased chances of clogged pores. This could further cause acne, bumps and other skin concerns. Additionally, if the makeup is not washed off, particularly overnight, it seeps into your pores, breaks the elastin and expedites the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Furthermore, one needs to ensure to choose the right makeup products based on their skin type as it could further dry out or grease up your skin. Therefore, the three most important basic steps to prep your skin prior to the application of makeup are cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing.

Tips To Prep Your Face Before Applying Makeup:

Brightening Face Wash: A brightening face wash will help clean away all impurities and aid in providing a natural glow as a base.
Hydrating Serum: A hydrating serum with Hyaluronic acid ensures to keep the skin oil-free. This allows easy application of makeup.
Brightening Serum: An alternative to a Hydrating Serum, a brightening serum would effectively minimize the appearance of spots, thus revealing an even skin tone.
Skin Soothe Moisturizer: A moisturizer’s primary role is to seal in the skin’s moisture. Additionally, it also keeps the skin calm under the application of makeup.
Primer: A primer helps to smoothen out the skin by filling in any crease or large pores. It prevents the moisturizer and skin oil balance from mixing with the makeup. However, if you start to apply a primer without cleansing or moisturizing your face, your makeup may end up looking patchy.
Brightening Lip Balm: Dry lips can cause your lipstick to look flaky and over a longer period, peel off. Therefore, ensure to provide a hydrated, smooth base to your lips with a brightening lip balm.
Tinted Sunscreen: The importance of sunscreen could not be overstated. The combination of the UV rays with the makeup could hamper your skin health. Therefore, wear sunscreen over your makeup to maintain an even look.

The Correct Order In Which You Should Apply Makeup:

Now that your face is all prepped up, it's important to know the correct order to apply makeup to get your ideal look. In this regard, Dhriti Nandwani, Educator, Proarte shared 8 simple steps to apply makeup in the correct order:

  • Skincare Prep: Cleanse your face to remove dirt, oil or any impurities. Apply Toner to tighten your pores followed by the application of moisturizer and use a primer to create a smooth base.

  • Face Makeup: Start with colour correction by neutralizing the dark circles, redness, etc. Apply a foundation that matches your skin tone referring to the colour of the neck and conceal the colour corrected areas to blend in with the foundation with a concealer. Set your base with a translucent setting powder.

  • Eyebrows: Fill in eyebrows using a brow pencil or powder drawing fine strokes. Use an eyebrow brush or spoolie to blend the product, groom the brows, and create a natural look.

  • Eye Makeup: Start with applying eye shadow primer on the eyelids and enhance the longevity of the eye shadow, followed by applying your eyeshadow shades as and how you want to create the look.

  • Eyeliner: Apply eyeliner on both the upper and lower lash line to give a fuller effect. Curl your lashes with an eyelash curler and coat them well with mascara. If needed, you can add in your false eyelashes.

  • Cheek: Apply blush to your cheek as per the face shape and blend in your bronzer under the blush for warmth and dimension. Add highlighter to the cheekbones, bridge of your nose, and cupid’s bow, and blend well for a natural shiny look.

  • Lips: Line your lips with a lip liner that matches your lipstick shade. Apply lipstick or lip gloss to complete your look.

  • Setting: Finish with a makeup setting spray to lock your makeup in place, for better longevity and making it water resistant.

Makeup Tips That You Need For This Festive Season:

As the festive season advances closer, the need to embrace bright and shiny things in your wardrobe and beauty kit becomes inevitable. But before you go ahead and indulge on your sparkling shadows and glitters, keep in mind these cardinal rules of make-up for traditional parties, with help from the celebrity make-up artist, Arti Nayar.

Embrace an all-out highlight:

There's nothing preferable than a decisively placed stroke of highlighter to supercharge drained, dull-looking skin. When you're going out for Pujo pandal-hopping or to a Diwali party, or even getting ready for Rakhi celebrations, a highlighter will shine through the night. For an all-over glow, apply a cream based formula to the high points of your face— across your cheekbones, down your nose and on your brow bones. If you'd like to just focus on your high cheekbones, sweep a glistening powder highlighter where the light would catch your face.

Keep it simple with monochromatic makeup:

You can apply the same shade on your eyes, cheeks and lips for a beauty look that is easier to pull off than you think, especially if your outfit is colourful and bold in the first place. Try a creamy pigment as they're more malleable— even finger application works for this kind of makeup.

Play with bold eye makeup:

Experimenting with bright colours and fun textures can be a great mood-booster, especially if you're playing with saturated shades that'll brighten your eyes for a lighter approach, try using an earthy tone, to create a smoky eye that's less intense than with black colours. For a fun addition, add a crystal on the sides of your lids.
