The festival of Raksha Bandhan which celebrates the special bond between sisters and brothers will be observed next month. According to Panchang, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on August 11 (Thursday) on the day of full moon of Shukla Paksha of the Shravan month. The popular festival of Raksha Bandhan is celebrated across the country.
Importance of Raksha Bandhan 2022
Raksha Bandhan literally translates into ‘the bond of protection, obligation, or care.’ It signifies the unwavering bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters tie rakhi on the wrist of their brothers after applying ‘tilak’ on their forehead and pray for his long and happy life. Sisters also offer sweets to brothers who in return promise to protect them.

The main ritual involves worshipping ‘raksha’ and tying it to the wrist as a ‘raksha’ bundle. The bundle should be made with broken rice, white mustard and gold-coloured thread. It should be woven with coloured fabric and kept on a clean cloth for the puja.

Purnima Tithi starts from 10.38 am on 11th August and ends at 7.05 am on Friday on 12 August. Hence people are doubtful whether the festival of Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on August 11 or on August 12. According to the Panchang, Sawan Purnima is all day on 11 August. The muhurta of Raksha Bandhan will be considered the same day.
