Pitru Paksha 2021: Pitru Paksha has a great importance in Hinduism. In 2021, the Pitru Paksha will start from September 21 and end on October 6. During Pitru Paksha, Tarpan and Shradh karma are performed for the satisfaction of the souls of deceased ancestors, family or fathers.

Generally, it is done by the eldest or the youngest son. But in their absence, other household members can also do Tarpan to their ancestors. According to the rules of Hindu scriptures, there are some rules in terms of who all can perform the rituals of Tarpan, Pinddaan and Shradh karma. Let's know these rules :-


Who can do Shradh in Pitru Paksha ?



  • According to the Hindu scriptures, the eldest son has the first right to perform Shradh karma with Tarpan or Pinddaan to the ancestors.

  • After son's marriage, son can perform Shradh with his wife.

  • If the eldest son is not alive, the younger son also can perform Pinddaan, Tarpan and Shradh karma.

  • In the absence of a son, the grandson {son of the son} can perform Shradh karma.

  • If one does not have a son, his siblings can perform Shradh karma.

  • A person who has only daughters, as per rules, the daughter's son, has the right to perform Shradh karma.
